Percy Jackson, Forever War, TV DVD News, The Secret LIfe of Houdini: The Making of America’s First Superhero, Shutter Island, Comic Previews


Percy Jackson

Screen Rant reports here that the young adult book series "Percy and the Olympians" will be filming under this new name. Directed by Chris Columbus and with a screenplay by Columbus and Craig Titley it will be based on the first book in the series (by Richard Riordan) "The Lightning Thief." They include this Wikipedia synopsis: "The Lightning Thief is the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, it is the story of twelve year old Percy Jackson, a boy with ADHD and Dyslexia. Percy has been going to many different schools, many of them boarding schools, due to the fact that he keeps getting kicked out. His entire life he has had no idea where his father is. But one day during a school field trip, Percy is approached by a mystical creature and defeats it with a sword named Riptide(disguised as a pen) given to him by a teacher. Later that day, Percy and his mom go on a trip to a beach when attacked by a storm. Percy’s friend Grover from school suddenly appears saving Percy, but ultimately failing to save his mom. Grover exposes himself as a Satyr and that Percy has been taken to Camp Half Blood. Percy discovers that he is a demigod and during a Capture the Flag game that his father is Poseidon, the god of the sea. A while later, Chiron, his old teacher and the camp director tells him that his father and uncle Zeus are warring over Zeus’s lost Master Bolt. Now, Percy must journey to find the Zeus’ missing bolt to restore peace in Olympus with Annabeth Chase and Grover the Satyr." The cast includes: Uma Thurman as Medusa, Pierce Brosnan as Chiron, Kevin McKidd as Poseidon, Sean Bean as Zeus, Logan Lerman as Percy, Melina Kanakaredes as Athena, Brandon T. Jackson as Grover and Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth. The filmmakers plan to begin production sometime this year, and a release in February 2010.



Forever War

Slash Film reports here that Ridley Scott has moved the film to 3D after seeing another filmmaker's achievement. Scott said: "I'm filming a book by Joe Haldeman called 'Forever War.' I've got a good writer doing it. I've seen some of James Cameron's work [on Avatar], and I've got to go 3D. It's going to be phenomenal."

The Hollywood Reporter says here that Summit Entertainment bought the rights to the biography by William Kalush and Larry Sloman, but plans on making an adventure film that may not have any relation to the real man.



Shutter Island

Rope of Silicon has posted here an article about Martin Scorsese's new film. The story tells of a U.S. Marshal and partner who are tracking an escaped murderous lunatic. The cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley and Jackie Earle Haley. The script a Laeta Kalogridis adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel. The film opens October 2, 2009.
