The Tempest

One of the most magical and lyrical of Shakespeare's plays is heading once again to the big screen. Julie Taymor will be putting together the newest vision of Prospero's Island. The cast includes Helen Mirren (playing the lead in Taymor's revision), Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou, Russell Brand, Alfred Molina, Ben Whishaw and Felicity Jones, with Geoffrey Rush in talks to join when shooting starts in November in Hawaii.



No Copying For You!

For those of you who want to make a back up copy of your DVDs, you'll have to wait a bit. A federal court in San Francisco has issued a temporarily barred RealNetworks from releasing its RealDVD software for computers, even though RealNetworks says the software includes encryption that prevents copying to file-sharing networks, the MPAA said that consumers could conceivably rent a movie, copy it onto their computers, then return the movie and so own it for the price of a rental. RealNetworks posted this notice on its website: "Due to recent legal action taken by the Hollywood movie studios against us, RealDVD is temporarily unavailable. Rest assured, we will continue to work diligently to provide you with software that allows you to make a legal copy of your DVDs for your own use."



The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes

Marvel Studios has announced a bunch of new animated series, including "Marvel Super Hero Squad," "The Black Panther," "Wolverine and the X-Men," "Iron Man: Armored Adventures" and an Avengers cartoon which will debut in 2011 as "The Avengers" live-action feature is set to debut in theaters. "The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes," will feature the same roster as is slated for the movie; Captain America, Iron-man, Hulk, Thor, Ant-man and the Wasp. There are a planned 26 half-hour episodes. Here is the official description given by Marvel Studios: "When the planet is threatened by Super Villains, time traveling conquerors [Kang], alien invaders [Kree/Skrulls], mythical monsters and mad robots bent on the total destruction of humanity [Ultron], when forces of evil are so overwhelming that no single hero has the power to save the world, when there is no hope left…the Avengers assemble!"

Ramayan 3392 AD

The Hollywood Reporter reports here that Mandalay Pictures, Mark Canton and Liquid Comics will make Liquid's graphic novel a theatrical feature film. John Collee will adapt the story, which itself was the adaptation of an ancient Hindu epic. There have been no release date, cast or crew name extended.



Deadpool

Superhero Hype spoke here to producer Lauren Shuler Donner about this film and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," saying: "Ryan Reynolds is playing Deadpool. He also plays Wade Wilson [in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine']." Does this mean she would like to do some kind of spin-off? "I hope so. I really hope so. He's so good at it."
