Venom

Slice of SciFi says here that Venom will make the jump from "Spider-Man 3" into his own feature. IESB reports here that, since Marvel Studios has already signed a deal with the writers, talks are taking place with some "A-List writers" at this very moment. No word has come out about if Topher Grace will be back as Eddie Brock/Venom and no dates or director has been named.

Bobby Fischer Goes to War

Kevin Macdonald will direct this drama about Fischer's triumph over Boris Spassky in the World Chess Championship in 1972. Fischer died earlier this month at age 64. Shawn Slovo has written a script based on the book by David Edmonds and John Eidinow. Production starts later this year.

Strike News

Rumor and speculation has proliferated beyond the internet and has reached the newspapers and media outlets. The hints are that over the weekend a "breakthrough" had been achieved in negotiations between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. WGA officials jumped to issue this message to their members: "Please disregard rumors about either the existence of an agreement or its terms. Picketing will resume on Monday. Our leverage at the bargaining table is directly affected by your commitment to our cause." The message did not stop The Los Angeles Times, citing three people close to the talks, from reporting that a final contract was likely to be presented to the WGA board as early as Friday. The Associated Press and Daily Variety report that a deal might be announced "within a week." Most reports credited the intervention of Disney CEO Robert Iger and News Corp CEO Peter Chernin for breaking the deadlock.

Night at the Museum 2: Escape from the Smithsonian

Variety reports that Amy Adams has joined the cast of the "Night at the Museum" sequel. Adams will play an 'undetermined historical figure' who has a crush on Ben Stiller's character. The plot sees the artefacts from the Museum of Natural History sent to the archives in the Smithsonian in Washington. Shaun Levy will return as the director and the film will open on May 22, 2009.
