Academy Awards President Sid Ganis has announced that he is positive the 80th Annual Academy Awards will happen on February 24th, despite the writers strike saying that: "things are looking very, very good now." He added: "The Oscars exists to shine the brightest possible light on you and your work, and it would be such a terrible shame, through no fault of yours and no fault of ours, if the current conditions prevented us from shining that brightest possible light."
Amanda Tapping is going to star in a television version of her Web series "Sanctuary," on SciFi Channel, so MGM have brought aboard Robert Picardo, who reprise his role as Richard Wooley, a civilian representative of the International Oversight Committee seen on the original "Stargate S-1" as well as appearing on the newer show. Fifth season episodes of "Atlantis" begin filming in February in Vancouver, B.C.. Production is not affected by the Writers Guild of America strike since the writing team are Canadian and not a part of the American union.
