Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter

Sci-Fi Wire says here that the Independent Film Channel and Lionsgate will film a TV movie based on the Laurell Hamilton books. The network's first-ever feature-length production could lead to more Blake projects if successful. The adaptation will be written by Glen Morgan, who also serves as executive producer along with Courtney Solomon and will air the film next year. Jennifer Caserta, executive VP and general manager of IFC, said: "The popularity of the network in this demographic indicates that there is a clear demand for films that delve into provocative topics, and nothing is more classically provocative than vampire lore. Anita Blake fits perfectly with our successful original programming."

Priest

The Hollywood Reporter tells us here that Paul Bettany is in negotiations to take the title role in the 2010 Tokyopop adaptation. Cory Goodman wrote the screenplay while Scott Stewart directs.

Star Trek Sequel

TrekMovie.com says here that work on the sequel to J.J. Abrams' film (which opens May 8, 2009) may already be in the works for 2011. Damon Lindelof said: "There's obviously a lot of hubris involved in signing on to write a sequel of a movie that hasn't even come out yet. But we're so excited about the first one that we wanted to proceed." Writer Alex Kurtzman mused: "Obviously we discussed ideas, but we are waiting to see how audiences respond next month… With a franchise rebirth, the first movie has to be about origin. But with a second, you have the opportunity to explore incredibly exciting things. We'll be ambitious about what we'll do."

Drag Me to Hell
