Astro Boy

Variety reports that director Colin Brady has been replaced by David Bowers. Imagi Entertainment's Co-CEO & Chief Creative Officer, Francis Kao made the announcement. There was no official reason given for the change. "Astro Boy" is scheduled for release in 2009.

The Dark Knight

Director Christopher Nolan wrote in Newsweek about Heath Ledger in which he said: "One night, as I'm standing on LaSalle Street in Chicago, trying to line up a shot for 'The Dark Knight,' a production assistant skateboards into my line of sight. Silently, I curse the moment that Heath first skated onto our set in full character makeup. I'd fretted about the reaction of Batman fans to a skateboarding Joker, but the actual result was a proliferation of skateboards among the younger crew members. If you'd asked those kids why they had chosen to bring their boards to work, they would have answered honestly that they didn't know. That's real charisma invisible and natural as gravity. That's what Heath had."

Strike News

The Writers Guild of America has announced separate deals with Lionsgate and Marvel Studios. Described as "interim" with "most favored nation" clauses that mean that if the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers negotiates a more beneficial contract for the producers, then that would supersede the current ones. Lionsgate is the first movie distributor to sign such a deal with the WGA. Here is a link to a list of WGA side deals with studios.
