Sunshine

Rose Byrne told SCI FI Wire that Danny Boyle's "Sunshine" is a claustrophobic adventure about a spaceship deep in outer space on a doomsday mission to reignite the dying sun. The team of astronauts includes Cillian Murphy, Michelle Yeoh, Hiroyuki Sanada and Chris Evans. Byrne said: "The main challenge was the actual reality of what we were doing. We were shooting on sound stages, but we were supposed to be in the middle of space, and there's a lot of tension going on in the story, and there are huge ideas that are debated. We had to do quite a lot of stunt stuff, too, which was interesting for me, because I hadn't done too much of that before. Danny is endlessly enthusiastic, madly passionate, quite eccentric, and [Sunshine] was probably the best working experience I have had. I adored working with him. He's wonderful. He was all over the script and the characters and really into the characters' stories, not just the special effects. These can be tough movies for an actor, but he's just so smart and inspiring. I'd work with him on every single thing he did if I were lucky enough to get that chance." Sunshine debuts July 20.

The Awesomes

SCI FI Channel has announced some of its 2007/2008 programming roster, including "The Awesomes": "SuperFriends meets The Office in this animated workplace comedy about a team of past-their-prime superheroes looking to get back onto the justice enforcement A-List. The Awesomes is about America's first superhero team. Formed in the 1940's, the team has gone through a revolving roster of the world's top heroes, gradually losing popularity as other, cooler superhero teams come into favor. The Awesomes, funded by a long-standing U.S. Government contract, may be forced to disband when the current administration requests bids from other teams. Can this motley crew of has-been heroes reclaim their glory days? 'The Awesomes' is from Broadway Video Television in association with Universal Media Studios. Seth Meyers ('Saturday Night Live') and Michael Shoemaker ('Saturday Night Live') are executive producers/writers; Lorne Michaels is executive producer; Andrew Singer is producer." Sound Incredible, anyone?

Criminal Minds

TV Guide Online reports that Mandy Patinkin will return for a single episode of CBS's Criminal Minds "to wrap up his story." Writing on website CriminalMindsFanatic.blogspot.com, producer Ed Bernero says, "Patinkin told the show, the studios and the network he was returning right up to the day before we started shooting the first episode and then simply did not show up. He also has not contacted anyone within the show to explain why he isn't returning. This is not about money. This is not about something Mr. Patinkin asked for that wasn't provided. Even to this moment, we have no word from him. He gave us no advance notice that anything was wrong, no opportunity to find a way to make the loss of this character work, no indication that we should be looking for someone else, no warning that we might have to rewrite the first seven scripts (which is how far ahead we try to work) without the central character in them. None. Zero."

The Dark Knight

Anthony Michael Hall will play Edward Nygma (The Riddler) in the upcoming film. The only word the production has given about it is that "this Riddler to be much less campy then in the show and movie." "The Dark Knight" will open nationwide on July 18, 2008.
