Superman
MTV did this interview with J.J. Abrams about his take on the character. It is well known he did a script for a film version that has made the rounds in Hollywood, and was not always well reviewed (Here is one of those reviews from the Superman Homepage). Among other things Abrams said: "It was a very passionate character for me. As a kid growing up it meant a lot to me. It would be wonderful and fun to see that brought back. I don't know what Warners is thinking or what their plan is. It would be a blast. That version of the movie - the one that was reviewed and vilified - was actually not the latest draft we had at the time and we worked on it well after that. I do think there's a version of that movie that could be really fun to see. You never really know. Everything happens for a reason." Ring of Roses
Variety reports here that Spice Factory and Persistent Entertainment are developing an adaptation of the mega-size (144 pages) Image Comics Graphic Novel about an alternate London beset with bubonic plague.

Short Circuit
IGN passes on here the news that the 2011 remake has a director for the script by Dan Milano, and it's Steve Carr.

True Grit
Variety reports here that Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in talks to join the Joel and Ethan Coen's planned remake of the 1969 John Wayne film. They would join Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn. Damon would take the Glen Campbell role, and Brolin )because of confusing reporting by several sites) would take the role either done by Robert Duvall or Jeff Corey in the original.

The Fourth Kind
ScreenRant tells us here of this upcoming release that recounts the "true events" of one doctor's (Milla Jovovich) investigation into a town whose residents experienced shared phenomenon having to do (supposedly) with alien abduction. The film (that has an official site here, including trailers) opens Nov. 6, 2009.

Doc Savage
Ain't It Cool News reports here that Neal Moritz and Ori Marmur are producing the adaptation of the Man of Bronze. Shane Black is set to write the script. The site passed on two things the writer confirmed about the project: 1) That it would take place in the original 1930's timeframe. 2)That it would be an original story, but respectful of the work of Lester Dent. Now I am really holding my breath, after all we have been hurt before.

My Fair Lady
Empire Online says here that the remake is set to star Keira Knightley as Eliza Doolittle. The screenplay will be by Emma Thompson who is also putting out "Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang" for release August 15, 2010. No release date for "My Fair Lady" has been announced.

Smallville
Airlock Alpha reports here that on the sweeps episode titled "Idol" airing Nov. 13, those Superfriends superstars, The Wonder Twins, played by David Gallagher and Allison Scagliotti, come to Metropolis.

Mad Max: Fury Road
The Daily Telegraph tells us here that George Miller's Fourth Road Warrior movie is to begin production immediately, even though nobody has officially been cast. The rumors are that the leads will be Sam Worthington and Charlize Theron. Ain't It Cool News has posted some pictures of cars from the film here. Here at Empire Online they pass on some conversation with Miller about the film. Among the tings he said is this: "All the vehicles are hybrids cobbled together from the wrecks of the past. They'll have to be very high performance because the film is shot at speed. The reason this movie's so big is it's got just a huge number of stunts. We're trying to do stuff that I believe people haven't done before."

Neill Blomkamp Gets New Project
Slice of SciFi says here that the creator and director of "District 9," has been given the green light for a new project by Media Rights Capital to go into production by the middle of next year. They are giving Blomkamp creative freedom and a production commitment that isn't contingent on domestic distribution. Blomkamp said: "MRC is letting me make the film I want to make, and that is by far the most important thing here. The film will hopefully be commercial, but it is very much a singular film, (one) that comes directly from me. It's a pretty epic science fiction film that takes place not on Earth. So that probably sounds like pretty much every other science fiction film out there. But it has a pretty unique, awesome twist to it, which I'll have to make it before I can tell you. … It's based on a planet, yeah. It's based on another planet. It's actually based on two other planets."

Mamma Mia 2
The Guardian says here that there will be a sequel, but that the music will NOT be from ABBA. That may be a problem.

Ghost in the Shell
Variety reports here that DreamWorks has hired Laeta Kalogridis to write a 2011 live action adaptation of the anime. They say: "DreamWorks is making the futuristic police thriller as a 3D live-action film."

Spider-Man 4
UGO says here that they spoke to Dylan Baker and he has confirmed he will be playing Dr. Curt Conners in the film. Now, no one has said if Conners becomes The Lizard in this edition, but we can hope. The film is due on May 5th, 2011.

Hulu Going To "For Pay?"
Broadcasting and Cable says here that our "Oh, I missed that show, but I can catch it on the internet" site may be dropping its free status. Chase Carey, News Corp. Deputy Chairman, said: "It's time to start getting paid for broadcast content online…I think a free model is a very difficult way to capture the value of our content. I think what we need to do is deliver that content to consumers in a way where they will appreciate the value. Hulu concurs with that, it needs to evolve to have a meaningful subscription model as part of its business."

Coming Soon.net has told us here that Roland Emmerich will be directing the 2010 film about who wrote the plays credited to William Shakespeare. Emmerich says: "It's not Marlowe, it's De Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford. [Anonymous is] kind of like a political thriller. It's about who will succeed Elizabeth and the cause of that thriller, the Essex Rebellion, we take on and we learn how the plays were written by somebody else." The screenplay is by John Orloff.

A Gift From The Culture
Slash Film reports here that the short story from the novel series The Culture, written by Iain M. Banks is coming to the big screen. The story is about a time when, because of Scientific Advancements, nobody wants for anything, there is no disease, no hunger. What becomes of humanity then? The adaptation will be directed by Dominic Murphy.

The Crow
Mania.com says here that the reboot looks like a go. The scripter of the project, Stephen Norrington said: "Whereas [Alex] Proyas' original was gloriously gothic and stylized, the new movie will be realistic, hard-edged and mysterious, almost documentary-style."

Iron Man 2
Couple (alright 3) fun things about the upcoming 2010 Golden Avenger film. First, French TV outlet CanalPlus has posted a video set visit here on YouTube that has some fun Q & A. Then MTV Splashpage has this video talk with director Jon Favreau (lot of good stuff about the characters). Finally, Scarlett Johansson tells Extra over here, "Hopefully, I won't be crucified for saying this, but I think the second one is even better." (Yeah, Movie Studios hate that kind of talk.)

X-Men: First Class
Empire Online has this great talk with producer L.auren Shuler-Donner about all the upcoming X-Men films & the 2011 Deadpool film. About the above 2010 film, she says: "Harry Potter is a bit of a role model for us, absolutely. We want it to be like the recent, darker Potters. It should not be a kiddie movie: we're in the X-Men world so you can't suddenly change the tone. The First Class comics are really fun -- they're funnier than any other comics I've read. Basically in each one the kids are fighting strange villains, sometimes it's aliens, sometimes it's monsters. I want to get a flavour of that world."

Thor
Cinematical reports here that both that Jude Law and Robert DeNiro have joined the cast of the film.

The Green Lantern
Ain’t It Cool News has published the rumor here that Jackie Earle Haley may have the inside track to play Sinestro in the Summer 2011 release. The Hollywood Reporter tells us here that the film will not be shot in Australia. The Warner Brothers Studios issued this press release: "The current global economic situation, including fluctuations in currency valuation and overall costs. We have also had to reassess film projects in other countries as well. After working closely with our partners at the NSW Film and Television Office (Screen NSW) and examining every scenario, we have decided to move the production of 'Green Lantern.' We are extremely grateful for the assistance we have received from the NSW Government, Fox Studios and the NSW filmmaking community."

Nathan Fillion
If you are a fan, IFC has a nice, long interview with the star here. (Thanks to Screen Rant for the picture) BTW: He really wants to star in a remake of "The Greatest American Hero." (heeheeheehee. I want him too also)

X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2
Rotten Tomatoes spoke here with Gavin Hood (who isn't sure to return to direct the sequel) about the 2011 film. Hood said: "All that's happened at the moment is that the studio has just commissioned the script for Wolverine 2 to be written. Whether that film will ever get made will depend on so many factors -- whether the studio likes the script, whether they find a director who responds to the script. Might that be me? Sure, I'd be extremely interested and thrilled if they were to send it to me." And about the relationship between Wolverine and Sabertooth? "In the original script they were not half brothers. There was some resistance to that, because in the world of the comics there's only a small suggestion in one particular comic that Victor Creed and Wolverine may well be half brothers. I just gravitated to that. Just having one good guy versus bad guy, with no emotional connection just felt like 'Whoa -- you'll have nothing but punching and kicking.' That was a way to build up the emotional power of the film. I thought Liev Schreiber did a phenomenal job. I'm very pleased that on the Blu-ray disc there's a particular scene that I was attached to that didn’t make it into the movie. I say that without saying 'It should have!' I think it probably should have been in the movie, but I understood the argument against it, and at the time there was much to-ing and fro-ing about it. It's a great thing to be able to put that sort of scene on the Blu-ray and let people think of other themes and idea that were in my mind when we made that scene."

Kill Bill Vol. 3
Uma Thurman spoke to here to Total Film about the 2012 (or 2014) sequel. Thurman said thre had been discussion with Tarantino, saying: "We did chat, we did chat. He has not yet finished the script. I don't even really know if he's really started it, although I got a taste of some of his ideas and they are really good."

Spider-Man 4
MTV News asks Sam Raimi is he will be directing the fifth and sixth episodes of the franchise here. Raimi said: "You have to ask me in two-and-a-half years. Every time I make one of the 'Spider-Man' movies, I have to ask myself, 'Is the character still intriguing to me? Do I love the character? Am I dying to tell the next story of Peter Parker and Spider-Man?"

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
The Ausiello Files says here that the return of Sara Sidle to the show has been extended. Executive producer Carol Mendelsohn said: "From our point of view, the more the better. As many episodes as we can have Jorja for we want her for. The season is about bringing the family back together again, so [this] was just a natural. Jorja has been the glue that has really helped to reform the bond of our team. We will address the fact that Grissom is somewhere else and Sara is living in Vegas. Everyone on the team is a little interested. They're like, 'What's the deal? Grissom's there, you're here, how does that work?' They are a very modern couple and they have a very healthy relationship. They have found a balance in their life that allows them to still feel fulfilled in their marriage and their careers. If it works for them, it works for us."

The Avengers
MTV Splash Page reports here that Jon Favreau told them, despite what has been rumored, he is not going to be the director of the upcoming epic. Favreau said: "They'll have to [find a another director], because I'm not going to be available. It's something I'm being the executive producer on, so I'll definitely have input and a say. That's why it's good that you have the guys from Marvel like Kevin Feige, who knows the books well and has been involved with the making of all the movies, and he'll be very involved with 'Thor' and 'Cap.' You need somebody who has the perspective of all the different franchises to bring them together. I have the myopic vision of just knowing and loving Iron Man."

Planet Hulk
Marvel Comics has this preview of the animated feature, due to be released in February, 2010.

Family Guy Presents: Seth & Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show
TV Guide is reporting here that Seth MacFarlane and Alex Borstein will show up in a Fox variety half hour on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 7:30CST. The mix of live and animated musical comedy will be shown commercial-free, but with integrated product promotion for Microsoft's new Windows 7 operating system. M'thinks could be the best infomercial we see all year.

Millennium
SciFi Wire tells us here that Bret A. Hart is hoping for a feature film version of the TV series, but they say it might be without creator Chris Carter. Hart told them, "As a tremendous admirer of 'The Millennium Series' I'm of course very intrigued by the recent rumors that there may indeed be a full length feature on the horizon. If any one can get 'Millennium' made it's Lance [Hendrickson], and it's been a long time coming. It's time to give the fans what they've been patiently waiting to see... More insight into the aberrant world of Frank Black ... while further elevating and merging storylines, characterization and visuals... and finally closure for one of the finest series ever created. Let's hope as the title sequence suggest 'The Time is near' ... and as I've already publicly stated ... my passion and conviction for the series is so deep that I'd direct 'Millennium—The Movie' for free just to see it on the big screen."

World of Warcraft
MovieFone says here that Sam Raimi has picked Robert Rodat to write the adaption of the game into a live action feature film. Raimi wants an original story based on the universe of the game, saying: "We would choose ... something that encompasses lands and characters and storylines, and we would be true to it. But our story may or may not be about one of those central characters."

The Return of Jack Ryan
Screen Rush is telling us here that Paramount Pictures is talking to Chris Pine about playing the role already taken up by Harrison Ford, Alec Bladwin and Ben Affleck in a reboot of the franchise by screenwriter Hossein Amini. Proposed sequels are "Rainbow Six" (2010) or "Without Remorse" (2011), but nothing is decided. BTW: It seems, from late reports, that the deal has gone through.

FlashForward
The Ausillo Files reports here that, along with "Cougar Town," "Modern Family" and "The Middle," the science fiction drama has been picked up for a full season.

Matt Helm
Many of us Bond book era Spy Novel readers were familiar with this series by Donald Hamilton, and disappointed by the "campy" version done for Dean Martin and the toothless Anthony Franciosa TV series from 1975. Now comes this new one slated for 2011. Maybe this time they'll do a "Casino Royale" with it.

Foundation
For many of us, this work of Asimov is one of the cornerstones of Science Fiction. Proposing a trilogy of films, Roland Emmerich promised fans here on SciFi Wire that he will not disappoint their vision of the masters' work. His response to the adaptation of "I, Robot" is an example he gives, saying: "They kind of pretty much changed everything, and I think the fans hated the movie. So I didn't want to do that. But on the other hand, the Foundation, it's a similar problem, you know? There's all these short stories, which then later got combined in a book. When you read it, ... you see all of a sudden how many other science fiction sagas it has influenced, you know? From Star Wars to Dune, all these things are pretty much influenced by Foundation, which was the first of its kind. Which poses a little bit of problem, but it's definitely something ... which you can sink your teeth in. And I was very happy that it became available." We'll wait and see.

Independence Day 2
MTV Movie Blogs tells us here that Roland Emmerich wants to push forward with the sequel. Emmerich said: "Dean Devlin and I are still set to make a sequel likely because we've found some sort of idea and we approached FOX and FOX has not quite figured out how to incorporate Dean's and my deal, and Will's [Smith] deal. Will wants to do it in some sort of a package they can live with. So it's just been in [negotiations] now since forever, and naturally FOX says 'Why don't you do it without Will Smith?' I said Will is essential for us, for this movie and actually for the audience too. And, so, it's in limbo and lately the studios are fighting. Like gross players, and Will is a gross player and is probably the only gross player right now who's worth his gross. So we'll see what happens. I would love to do it."

The Chicago Tribune tells us here that Laurence Fishburne's Dr. Ray Langston is going to be traveling during the November Sweeps. Empire Online has an extended interview online here with Sir Ian McKellen about both this and "X-Men Origins: Magneto," and by extention, the whole X-Men franchise. It will be worth your time.

Empire Online says here that Bryan Singer may be on his way to the some X-films. They have been talking about not only the fourth in the series but "X-Men: First Class" & the sequel to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." Singer has said: "I'm still looking to possibly returning to the X-Men franchise. I've been talking to Fox about it. I love Hugh Jackman. I love the cast."

Human Target
Target419.com is posting storylines (including some spoilers) for the first handful of episodes for the series. The show debuts January 17th, 2010.

Moses

Shock Till You Drop is breaking this news about the new animated web-series Showtime is putting up, extending the story lines from the hit series. They also have a video trailer you can watch it you would like.

The Cabin in the Woods
If you have been waiting for the new Joss Whedon thriller, well according to this article at Shock Till You Drop you are going to have to wait another year before it comes out. It seems that MGM has the opening from February 5th, 2010 to January 14th, 2011 because they're going to convert it to 3-D. The film's official website is here.

Gravel
Variety reports here that the Warren Ellis comic will be adapted by Legendary Pictures into a live action feature. The story is about a "combat magician." IGN describes the comic here, saying, among other things: "This is not just magic. This is Combat Magic, wielded by Sergeant Major William Gravel, Warren Ellis' cult-hit sensation!" Ellis will write the first draft plus executive produce the film. It's sort of Harry Potter for those seeking grittier wizards.

Zombieland 2
MTV says here that the film's sequel is already on the fast track. Paul Wernick, on of the writers, commented on the possibility: "We would love it, and everyone involved creatively wants to do another one. Woody [Harrelson] came up to us after the final cut of the last scene and gave us a hug and said, 'I've never wanted to do a sequel in the previous movies I've done until this one.' It has lived in our heads for four-and-a-half years. We [Wenick along with co-writer Rhett Reese] developed it and wrote it as a spec TV pilot in the summer of 2005. We've got a long brainstorming document that still to this day gets updated on a near-weekly basis with ideas. We've got tons of new ideas swimming in our head."

300 Pre/Sequel
MTV Splashpage spoke here with Gerald Butler about the 2011 project. They said that Frank Miller is working on a graphic novel, and, because of that producer Marc Canton is interested and director Zack Snyder is also interested. Butler said: "[I] had an incredible time doing the first one, and I think that if the first one was a stand-alone, as a one-off, there's no bad thing in that… But, you know, let's see what it might bring forward with a second one."

Ghostbusters 3
Bloody Disgusting reports here that they have "straight up confirmed, 100%, without a shadow of a doubt that Ivan Reitman, director of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2, is in fact attached to get behind the camera for Ghostbusters 3." But Rietman said: "he hasn't decided whether or not he really wants to direct [it], yet." So, at this time he is merely "attached" to the project. It's all rather confusing, really. The one thing we know for sure is that Rick Moranis is still retired.

The Jealous One
The Risky Biz Blog says here that while the little budget/big box office flick "Paranormal Activity"'s director/writer/editor/producer Oren Peli has picked up work as writer & director with the film "Area 51." (here's a link to a Screen Rant story about that), two other producers Jason Blum and Steven Schneider, are about to sell a script based on the 1985 Celia Fremlin book. The story is described as (as far too many films are, and have little right to be) Hitchcockian. In this case, at least, we are talking about someone who wrote an episode (titled "The Lonely Hours") of "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour."

Fandango reports here that the Robert Rodriguez reboot has added Adrien Brody and Topher Grace to the cast that already includes Alice Braga, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Walt Goggins, Danny Trejo and UFC fighter Oleg Taktarov. The film is set to open on July 7, 2010.

30 Days of Night: Dark Days
Horror Asylum has this article about the sequel, saying that production begins on the 20th of this month, with a scheduled wrap on the 24th of November. Melissa George returns as Stella, who in this story joins a bunch of vampire hunters in order to kill Lilith, the vampire responsible for the deaths in her Alaskan town. Robert Tapert, of Ghost House Pictures, who confirmed the shoot said: "Ben Ketai is up in Vancouver now getting ready to shoot. I think principal photography is coming along in two weeks. It's a really good script."

Comic Book Movie has this story that says that Beyoncé Knowles is in negotiations to take the title role in the script from Stuart Beattie and David Elliot and John Moore direct. The studio has moved the project from Joel Silver's control and hope to do signing in time for production to begin by mid-2010 for a late 2011 release. No one is definite, no one is signed.

The Flash
IGN has this report on the problems with the production. Charles Roven, a producer who has left the 2011 project, told them: "I was involved at one point with The Flash and Warner Bros. came to me and said, 'The work that you've been doing hasn't yet resulted in something that any of us, including the filmmaking team, feel could be greenlit as a movie. We're trying to accomplish something that takes into account the entire, rich DC character world, and we'd like to pull it back. That doesn't mean that you aren't going to be a part of it. We just want to take a different kind of approach. Do you mind if we try that?' If we had something that was really working. They had something that was more or less working for them on Green Lantern, and now you have Martin Campbell directing it…But we didn't. The David Goyer screenplay, that didn't work. Goyer left the project. We then embarked with David Dobkin, trying to come up with another approach. We hadn't even hired a writer at that point. So for us, we completely understood. I've been making movies with Warner Bros. for 15 years, so that was fine, but I hope one day there's a way for me to get re-involved in the project." Screenwriter Dan Mazeau told IGN: "The Flash has not been hobbled. Everything is moving forward as planned. I'm still writing the script. Geoff Johns is still consulting. Flash fans have no cause for concern and - in my opinion - lots to be excited about."

Bond 23
We Are Movie Geeks says here that while "The Hobbit" is safe at MGM, the studio's financial problems may send the franchise over to Fox. The film, no matter the studio, is not due until 2011.

Resident Evil: Afterlife
Coming Soon says here that the fourth film in the series is already in production in Toronto and will feature the return of Milla Jovovich's Alice. Ali Larter's Claire and Spencer Locke's K-Mart will also be back. This film will also feature Wentworth Miller as Claire's brother. There are also rumors of the addition of Eva Mendes and Jensen Ackles, but we don't have confirmation on that as yet. The Paul W. S. Anderson written, directed and produced project will open on August 27, 2010.

Day One
Variety reports here that NBC has decided that the series will now become a mini-series. The four hours (as opposed to the first 13 hours) will air after the Winter Olympics 2010. Angela Bromstad, President of prime time entertainment, said, "We've always looked at Day One as a big event for us and not necessarily a show that would be an ongoing, returning show for a second season."

Let Me In
Bloody Disgusting reports here that the remake of the Swedish film "Let the Right One In" (2008) will begin production this Fall in New Mexico, but the release date is just listed as 2010.

That window closed for now. After Drive Angry, there's a chance it'll open again."

Transformers 3
Superhero Hype has here passed on Michael Bay's posting on his official forum that the third film in the series will come out in 2011. Here is part of what Bay posted: "Well its official: We have a great Transformers 3 story. The release date is now July 1st 2011. Not 2012. Today is Day One. This morning started with an ILM meeting for five hours in San Francisco. Currently I’m flying with writer Ehren Kruger to Rhode Island to talk to Hasbro about new characters. P.S. Megan Fox, welcome back. I promise no alien robots will harm you in any way during the production of this motion picture. Dead of Night
It's Just Movies take space here to quote reviewer Vanna Land about the film, saying it was "Charming from start to finish with plenty of laughs, just enough gore and suspense and lots of witty banter, even between the most unlikely of characters. The audience certainly seemed to enjoy the movie. Everyone was laughing at the right times and quiet at other times." The synopsis of the film goes like this: "The adventures of supernatural private eye, Dylan Dog, who seeks out the monsters of the Louisiana bayou in his signature red shirt, black jacket, and blue jeans."

The Green Hornet
Everybody has seen this posting from Splash News of footage from the set, including someone in the Green Hornet costume. Now People Magazine reports here on Edward Furlong's problems (including a continsious divorce, a threattened suicide and psychiatric lockdown) Furlong's rep said: "Eddie has been sober for more than five years and is preparing to begin production on a new film (Green Hornet, which he is supposed to begin work on this weekend though his name has not previously been mentioned in connection to the film)." Finally the L.A. Bomb Squad had to be called in to explode an unidentified metal object. It's been a long time since I can remember any film with as much baggage as this December 17, 2010 release.

A Nightmare on Elm Street

Variety reports here that BBC America will produce another 13 episodes from the recently cancelled ITV SF series. Those episodes will show up in two arces starting in 2011. Jonathan Drake, Impossible Pictures managing director, said: "The dramatic changes in the business of broadcasting in the last 12 months have meant we have had to completely rethink how we put the funding together for a top-end series like 'Primeval.' The fact that the series is so well established and loved in the U.K. and overseas has meant that everyone has been willing to do their best to give us the backing we needed."

Criminal Minds
The Hollywood Reporter says here that the successful CBS show is looking at getting a spin-off show next fall.

Slash Film spoke here with Jon Landau (long time James Cameron collaborator) about upcoming projects. First, as to a sequel to the December 18, 2009 release, Landau said: "If the public likes Avatar, it's a possibility. After all, here we are exploring the surface of the planet Pandora. The interior remains to be seen." After that? "We'll go on to Battle Angel [based on the anime Battle Angel] Alita [2011 proposed release date] and The Dive, a love story in the middle of a dive. James is directing both projects."

IGN spoke here with Sam Rockwell (one of the my personal favorite actors in the business today) about the Justin Hammer role. Rockwell said: "He's a rival of Tony's -- they are competitors in the weapons industry. I team up with Mickey Rourke and we decide we want to take him down and take down the Stark legacy." In a video interview here on Entertainment Tonight, Jon Favreau said this about casting Rourke: "Once we thought of him, we started developing the costume and the design of the character around him. His career got very busy as he was doing all the award season stuff and it took some time to make everything work out, but he was enthusiastic from our first meeting. And, I was so glad that it worked out. Thomas The Tank Engine
Cinemablend lets parents know here that Josh Klausner is adapting a 2010 feature film based on toy-train world originally created by Rev. W.V. Awdry. About the Shining Time Station version or the Alec Baldwin narrated feature "Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends," they say: "This new version would seem to be more directly based on the 40s works though, rather than Shining Time Station. Each incarnation revolves around the people and magical, talking railroad trains which populate a fictional island."

In news that promises to make this writer happy Empire Online says here that the live action film is moving along merrily towards an actual 2012 production. The cast has now grown by Tal Hajus (Thomas Haden Church), a vicious Thark warrior; Kantos Kan (James Purefoy), Captain of the ship Xavarian, the kingdom of Helium's grand warship and Matai Shang (Mark Strong) ruler of the godlike Therns. I must admit to multiple heart crashes, each time this project was on and then off and then on again. The prospect that it might actually vault from my childhood to the screen is something hard to put in words. Let's just say it makes me happy.

The Hollywood Reporter says here that production has been shut down in late August and ABC will be splitting up the season. After the November 3rd premiere they's run 3 more episodes and leave the last as a cliff-hanger. Then the show will become a possible mid-season replacement. Maybe.

Moby Dick
Variety reports here that the $25 million made-for-TV adaptation (probably a mini-series) has added more cast members. Captain Ahab (William Hurt) and Starbuck (Ethan Hawke) are being joined by Gillian Anderson, Charlie Cox and Donald Sutherland. Production is set to begin this month with an airdate in 2010.

Worst Previews confirms here that Ari Arad has gained the writes to the character and plans a CGI animated feature.

The Green Lantern
The Nuke the Fridge website spoke here with "Deadpool" co-creator Rob Liefield who has been in on a lot of FX news for the 2011 film. The said that Liefield said that over one-third of the movie is set on Oa, the home world of the Green Lanterns. Remember, this is third person and not directly quoted, so take it however you choose to take it. Liefield has tweeted that he knows Ryan Reynolds is still doing the lead in both films.

Sci-Fi Wire has this interview with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick about their script(s) for the off shoot of the Spider-Man franchise. They said: "We've written two drafts of Venom, and the studio has it, and they're pushing forward in whatever ways they push forward." Will it be a cross over with "Spider-Man 4" or in anyway related, and which will come out first in 2011? They answered: "We can't really talk about that, unfortunately. Basically, the studio and Marvel and the Arads are taking our drafts and going beyond and figuring out what's the next step."

Norton said: "In the comics, there was always a tension between the rest of the superhero community and he was always this problem… They treated him as this problem. Barbie
Reuters reports here that Universal Pictures has picked up the rights to do a live action feature film based on the 50 year old (yes, this is her anniversary) Mattel figure. Laurence Mark will produce. Marc Shmuger, Universal's chairman, said: "So many representations of Barbie frequent pop culture, but never before has she been brought to life in a motion picture. We're grateful to Mattel for entrusting us with this extraordinary opportunity."

The Hollywood Reporter says here that James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment has long-term plans to re-release the film, as well as "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" in 3-D versions. No target dates for either film have been given.

Jack the Giant Killer
The Hollywood Reporter also tells us here that Bryan Singer will be directing the script by Mark Bomback, with an eye toward a 2011 release. Here is the synopsis: "Jack the Giant Killer is a film about a world where people and giants maintain a tenuous truce - that is until a princess gets kidnapped and the giants are fingered as the culprits. Our hero, Jack, a young farmer, leads a team on a rescue quest to bring back the princess." This sounds like, but not exactly like the 1962 stop-motion version.

Sci-Fi Wire has says here that Jaimie Alexander has been cast as Sif and Colm Feore has joined the cast as an un-named villain in the 2011 Marvel Comics adapted feature, with characters created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. The Kenneth Branagh directed film will feature Chris Hemsworth as the title character, Brian Blessed as Thor's Father Odin, Natalie Portman as the Thunder God's human love, Jane Foster, and playing his evil half brother Loki will be Tom Hiddleston. This is actually starting to look like something I am hoping about.

Sherlock Holmes
The Hollywood Reporter says here that the film, set to open on Christmas Day, 2009, is already being sequelized. And the talk is that Brad Pitt will be part of the project, possibly playing Prof. Moriarity. The character appears in this film, but only in the shadows and not portrayed by Pitt, even though rumors said otherwise. The entire cast from the film is coming back for the follow-up.

The difference between this suit and most is that it is being handled by the same lawyer who won those Superman rights back.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Coming Soon spoke here with Diane Nelson, the head of DC Entertainment Inc., about the upcoming theme park, and she said: "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is yet another way that fans will be able to experience and enjoy Harry Potter for many years to come. The power of this brand speaks for itself, as the enthusiasm of our dedicated fans around the world continues to grow even stronger as we move into the future." The story includes many of the aspects that the park will feture, and if the idea sounds good you should check out the link. The park is set to open at Universal Studios Orlando by spring. The Los Angeles Times has posted this video explaining more about the park.

Superman
MTV also spoke here with Diane Nelson (she does get around), who said this: "We actually don't have any current plans for Superman…We've obviously done a lot of great things behind the property in our history, and it's a key part of the family, but we don't have current plans behind Superman."

Blockbuster
The Hollywood Reporter says here that the chain is going to close 960 stores (about 20% of their total). Then they plan on putting about 10,000 Blockbuster Kiosks (like those put up by Redbox) up by the end of 2010.

MTV Movie News spoke here to director Peter Berg, who says that the 2010 film adaptation is still in the works. Berg said: "[It's important to] figure out how we can beat [the script] into something manageable without offending the purists. Ain't it Cool News has this plot and a couple of stills from DC's next animated film. It features the Crime Syndicate vs. the Justice League plus a "Good Guy" Lex Luthor. William Baldwin will voice Batman and James Woods will be Owlman. It is written by Dwayne McDuffie.

The Green Hornet
Deadline Hollywood reports here that, though Nicolas Cage has left the December 17th, 2010 project, he has been replaced by the stand out of "Inglourious Basterds," Christoph Waltz will take his place as the villain.

Indiana Jones 5
Slash Film spoke here to Harrison Ford and Karen Allen about the Summer - 2012 sequel. Ford said: "The story for the new Indiana Jones is in the process of taking form…Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and myself are agreed on what the fifth adventure will concern, and George is actively at work. If the script is good, I'll be very happy to put the costume on again." The article also has some video of Allen at Dragon Con, also talking about the film.

Sci Fi Wire hints here that Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have revealed that season 6 will bring characters back who've been killed off, including those who died the first season. Dominic Monaghan said: "I think a lot of times recently there's been talk of us hanging out, and why would they be hanging out other than talking about Lost? We had breakfast one time, and I think that was the reason why a lot of these Lost rumors started. I'm sure they would be keen to bring back certain characters this season." Season 6 premieres with a two-hour special titled "LAX" early next year.

Silent Hill 2
The Hollywood Reporter says here that, with no other details available, the 2010 sequel is in the early planning stages.

Producer Lauren Schuler-Donner is quoted here in IESB as saying that Ryan Reynold's position as Green Lantern (I missed when he moved from being The Flash, but that's my fault) has not slowed development of the film. She said:"Not on my end, personally, not on my end, no. I think you can do different characters. We've had different Bonds right, and I think if Harrison Ford can be in Indiana Jones and he can be in the Tom Clancy movies, I think if you are a good actor you become the character and it's alright."

Ronin
Comic Book Resources tells us here that, despite the creation of DCE, the Frank Miller comic is being adapted for the big screen. Director Sylvain White said: "It's still being developed. I just got a new draft a week ago. It's looking really good and promising. I hope it gets to go. The fortunate thing is that 'Ronin' is some Frank's earlier work. What's great and what for me works in the graphic novel, esthetically-speaking, is the design of [the city of] Aquarius, the design of New York. So I would pay homage to him more in the production design versus the actual frames. The frames in 'Ronin' are some beautiful frames, and some I would go with, but what's beautiful to me about 'Ronin' is the production design and the character design and the colors that are used. You can frame things with much more depth and beauty on film than you can in a graphic novel. Replicating frames, that's a different language. You want to always stay true to the graphic novel, but you're watching a different medium. You never want to remind the audience that they're watching a graphic novel or [something from] a graphic novel source. You just want [audiences] to watch a great movie. And if they know it's based on a graphic novel, awesome. And if you make the fans happy because you paid good tribute to the source material, awesome. I don't think you make fans happy by just replicating frames. What they want to see is that you stayed true to the story, true to the characters and true to the design."

Here is a synopsis: "Puppeteer John Chandagnac, bound for Jamaica to recover stolen money from his uncle, becomes Jack Shandy after pirates attack his ship and force him to join their crew. Shandy's struggle to accept his new life grounds the story for readers, even as Blackbeard and vodun magicians whisk everyone away to dreamlike lands where the Fountain of Youth itself awaits. The chaotic sea battles sing, though at times key events happen so quickly that they get lost in the shuffle as Jack tries to comprehend where he's going and what's at stake."

The Gunslinger
Variety reports here that Chris Nahon will direct the 2011 post-apocalyptical film described thus by producer Mark Williams: "This story takes a unique and startling look at what might happen when the lawlessness of the Old West returns … but with better weapons" They also say that Josh Hartnett has signed to star in the film, which has nothing to do with the Dark Tower character created by Stephen King.
